
Every so often, I fall in love with this city all over again.
Last Fall, after a turbulent disagreement with the person I was dating, I decided to go for a walk in an attempt to clear my mind. It was raining but I was too upset to bother bringing an umbrella. Somewhere along the way I started to cry. My immediate instinct was to wipe away my tears so that the people passing wouldn’t notice. I eventually had an (obvious) epiphany that because it was pouring it was practically impossible for anyone to differentiate tears from the raindrops running down my face. The notion provides a comforting feeling that is hard to explain. To this day, whenever it rains, I secretly wonder if someone who is upset is relieved to be able to cry on their walk home without anyone noticing or nagging them with questions about what is wrong…
